This open is part of the Graphics Package for Spike TV's Playbook. I worked with nailgun* as a freelance Designer & Animator on the open and on other pieces of the pack.

We produced several directions before getting to the approved one. Here are some of them:

<img src="http://payload24.cargocollective.com/1/0/21390/2790216/Boards_Play_01_860.png" width="860" height="486" width_o="860" height_o="486" src_o="http://payload24.cargocollective.com/1/0/21390/2790216/Boards_Play_01_o.png" data-mid="14170174" border="0" align="left"/><img src="http://payload24.cargocollective.com/1/0/21390/2790216/Boards_Play_02_860.png" width="860" height="732" width_o="860" height_o="732" src_o="http://payload24.cargocollective.com/1/0/21390/2790216/Boards_Play_02_o.png" data-mid="14170335" border="0" align="left"/><img src="http://payload24.cargocollective.com/1/0/21390/2790216/Boards_Play_03_860.png" width="860" height="486" width_o="860" height_o="486" src_o="http://payload24.cargocollective.com/1/0/21390/2790216/Boards_Play_03_o.png" data-mid="14171349" border="0" align="left"/>

Nearly all the animation was done in Cinema 4D, and one of the biggest challenges was making the camera travel around smoothly, moving between stages almost unnoticeably.

Big thanks to Michael, Erik, Shane & all the team from nailgun* for the great opportunity.

Cube is an experiment that started with the simple idea of reconstructing a Rubik's Cube in 3D. Even though I hadn't been working on 3D Max quite often then, I was pleased with the render I got out of it.

After that, some friends helped with the rigging, and animating became easier. With a rather short render from 3D I was able to play a lot in After Effects and eventually came up with around 18 seconds of animation. Although the color correction on the render wasn't so dramatic, compositing played a big part on the final piece, as I added several layers of particles, smoke, flares & bokeh effects.

The soundtrack & sound effects were created afterwards by Lucas Coutinho, my super-talented-musician cousin. Special thanks also to Alexandre Ormond & Erick Monteiro.
